Reviews and press coverage
Here's what some people said in online reviews..
"I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki, this was awesome. Lashings of chicken covered in a teriyaki sauce with a few veg. The size of the portion and the sweet sticky taste of the teriyaki sauce make this a must purchase when coming here."
"Top marks go to the cod though, the battered pieces were absolutely delicious. The rice was gorgeous, we both dipped chunks of it into our various sauces to mop them up. We ate everything."
"We ordered a Beef Yakiniku Bento box, an Agedashi Tofu Bento box, two pieces of eel sushi and some endamame beans. The eel in my sushi was freshly fried, soft, and served with rice that had clearly been just cooked. Served with a generous portion of pickled ginger, it was wolfed down, followed by the remaining ginger. Yum Yum. My beef bento box was a treasure trove of delicious morsels. The beef came served in a rich but not gloopy broth, with plenty of onions and peppers. Accompanying this was some steamed rice topped with black seeds, slices of omelette, some pickled root vegetable, some cooked vegetables (which included something gelatinous but pleasing) and a small amount of green bean salad. It all worked a treat together, and was fresh, tasty and well-presented."
"Small but perfectly formed Japanese restaurant just outside the Bullring. With its simple cafe styling and gorgeous bento boxes it offers a more traditional take on Japanese eating than nearby Wagamama as proved by tables full of Japanese folk enjoying great plates of sushi and imported Japanese drinks with the most weird and wonderful names."
"Simple, canteen style Japanese restaurant overlooking the Bullring square. Holds its own next to Wagamama and Yo! Sushi by providing quick, friendly service and authentic Japanese food in a no frills environment. Grab a stool by the window and watch the world go by as you tuck in to a beautifully presented bento box - ideal for a pre-bar dinner or a quick but special lunch during the working day. Healthy, delicious food, good, fast service and all at the helm of Brum's shopping mecca? It's a miracle..."
"It’s a proper neighbourhood restaurant from Tokyo transplanted to Birmingham. Try a cod or chicken bento with a side of sushi or even fried tofu (just amazing!) Or perhaps add some tempura if you are really hungry. My other half swears by the chicken curry. A wide variety of suitably odd Japanese soft drinks are available. Staff are friendly. And the desserts are great too."
